The Two Fatalities Identified in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Hunt for Gunman.
Two students who died in the recent mass shooting in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer continued following the discharge by local law enforcement of the sole person detained in connection in the case.
Honoring a Lost Student
The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.
She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared words of sorrow online, remarking: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”
The Second Victim
The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.
The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.
The Shooting Incident
Nine more persons were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a raid at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.
“A perpetrator remains free,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.
Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”
Public Fear
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate new worry for our community”.
The assailant opened fire inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.
Officers that searched the hotel found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the person of interest was arrested, the news agency reported.
The Wounded Victims
Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.
An educational institution, a independent school in North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the student's death in a message. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, friends, and fellow students and lament the passing of his bright future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about 7,300 undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to records.
